16
Q

What do the collecting ducts merge into?

A

papillary ducts

17
Q

What part of the nephron performs filtration?

A

renal corpuscle

18
Q

What part of the nephron performs reabsoption?

A

renal tubule and collecting duct

19
Q

What part of the nephron performs secretion?

A

renal corpuscle and collecting duct

20
Q

What affects the amount of filtrate?

A
  • diameter of afferent arterioles

- pressure within glomerular capillaries

21
Q

What are the 2 types of nephrons?

A
  1. Cortical nephrons

2. Justamedullary Nephrons

22
Q

What type of nephrons are found in majority?

A

cortical nephrons

23
Q

Where are juxtamedullary nephrons found?

A

PCT, corpuscle, DCT

  • closer to medulla
24
Q

What is the difference in length of the two types of nephrons?

A

cortical - short into medulla

juxtamedullary - long into medulla

25
Q

What is the anatomical difference between cortical and juxtamedullary nephrons?

A

juxtamedullary has two portions of the ascending limb…. thin and thick ascending limb

26
Q

Where do the cortical and juxtamedullary receive blood from?

A

cortical- peritubular capillary network

juxtamedullary- peritubular capillary network and vasa recta

27
Q

List the flow of fluid through a cortical nephron

A

Glomerular (Bowman’s) capsule -> proximal convoluted tubule -> descending limb of loop of henle -> ascending limb of loop of henle -> distal convoluted tubule (then into collecting duct)

28
Q

List the flow of fluid through a juxtamedullary nephron

A

Glomerular (Bowman’s) capsule -> proximal convoluted tubule -> descending limb of loop of henle -> THIN ascending limb of loop of henle -> THICK ascending limb of loop of henle -> distal convoluted tubule (then into collecting duct)

29
Q

Compare the network of capillaries between the vasa recta and the peritubular capillary network

A

vasa recta is “striaghter” and peritubular is messy

30
Q

When does filtrate become urine?

A

after it enters the papillae
