Function of the ovaries
produce secondary oocytes and hormones (estrogen and progesterone)
Function of uterine tubes
transports secondary oocytes to uterus
Function of uterus
protect and nourish developing embryo and fetus
Function of vagina
receive penis during sexual intercourse and provide passageway for childbirth
Function mammary glands
synthesize, secrete, and eject milk for newborn
Where are the female gonads/ ovaries?
@ either side of the uterus
Are the ovaries endocrine or exocrine?
Both
What is the endocrine function of the ovaries?
produce and releases hormones (estrogen and progesterone)
What is the exocrine function of the ovaries?
Produce and release secondary oocytes (ovulation)
Function of uterine tubes
- receive and transport secondary oocyte to superior part of uterus
- provide a route for sperm to reach ovum
What are the 3 regions of the uterine tubes?
- infundibulum
- ampulla
- isthmus
What is the infundibulum?
distal portion of uterine tube
What is extended structure is found in the infundibulum?
fimbriae
What are fimbriae and what is their function?
finger like projections that produces a small current from swaying that helps oocyte to come tino uterine tube
What is the longest part of the uterine tubes and why is it important?
ampulla - needed for fertilization
Where is the isthmus?
proximal to uterus
How is the isthmus compared to the infundibulum and ampulla?
narrower lumen and thicker walls in isthmus
