Give the definition of a circumcision?
a surgical procedure that involves the excision of all or some of the foreskin from the penis.
Give the definition of a digital rectal examination (DRE)
a diagnostic examination involving a doctor gently putting a lubricated, gloved finger of one hand into the rectum to identify abnormalitites in the pelvic cavity, such as prostate disorders
Give the definition of a prostate biopsy?
A prostate biopsy is a procedure that involves the insertion of a needle into the prostate to remove a small sample of tissue for examination under a microscope. The most common path is via the rectum, but can also be via the urethra or the space between the scrotum and anus.
Give the definition of PSA test?
A PSA test is a diagnostic test to determine the level of prostate-specific antigen in the blood. A higher level of PSA can be an indicator of prostate disease such as benign prostatic hypertrophy or cancer.
Give the definition of semen analysis?
Semen analysis is a diagnostic test to determine whether a man is infertile. Analysis is undertaken to determine issues with sperm count, motility, auto-immunity and morphology.
Give the definition of transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP)?
A TURP is a surgical procedure performed to remove the prostate endoscopically by passing an instrument through the eye of the penis and down the urethra into the area of the prostate. The prostate is removed by electrocautery or sharp dissection.
Give the definition of a vasectomy?
a procedure for male sterilisation that involves cutting a segment out of the ductus deferens and the ends being ligated or cauterised.
