The Liver in Excretion Flashcards
what does the liver excrete? though what is it more of than excretory
ammonia/urea, dead RBC, more of a creator
Why are proteins that are entered into the liver broken down and what are they broken into
because excess protein can’t be stored, broken into amino acids
What can broken down amino acids be used for
- make new proteins
- lost from body via urine, sweat
Explain deamination in the liver
1) amino group (NH2) in amino acid is removed
2) once removed,the NH2 is converted to ammonia (NH4)
3) its then converted to urea(as less toxic), an eliminated in urine (by adding energy and CO2 to make urea and water)
4) remaining part of amino acid(primarily hydrogen + oxygen)= converted to carbohydrate, which is readily broken down by cells to release energy, water and carbon dioxide
What is the first formula in Deamination
Amino acid + oxygen = carbohydrate + ammonia
What is the second formula in Deamination
Energy + carbon dioxide + ammonia = urea + water
What happens to the remainder of the amino acid after the amino group is removed
As made of carbon and hydrogen, turned into a carbohydrate that can be readily broken down by cells to release energy carbon dioxide and water
