The Leg Flashcards
Genucular anastomosis definition
network of vessels surrounding the knee that are capable of maintaining circulation to the leg in full knee flexion
order of arteries
- femoral
- popliteal
- anterior tibial
- posterior tibial
- fibular artery
deep fibular (peroneal) nerve insertions
- tibialis anterior
- EHL
- EDL
- Fibularis (peroneus) tertius
Superficial fibular(peroneal) nerve insertions
- Fibularis longus
- Fibularis brevis
Common fibular (peroneal) nerve gives rise to
the deep and superfiscial fibular nerves
The tibial nerve inserts
- Gastrocnemius
- Popliteus
- FDL
- FHL
- Tibialis posterior
- Soleus
- Plantaris
Anterior Compartment of leg contains
- deep peroneal nerve
- dorsiflexors/inversion of foot & toes
Lateral Compartment of leg contains
- superfiscial peroneal nerve
- evertors of the foot
Posterior compartment of leg contains
- tibial nerve
- plantar flexors of foot & toes
Anterior Comparment Muscles
- Tibialis Anterior
- Extensor Hallucis Longus
- Extensor digitorum longus
Lateral Compartment Muscles
- peroneus Brevis
- peroneus Longus
Superfiscial Posterior Compartment Muscles
- Gastrocnemius
- Soleus
- Plantaris
Deep Posterior Compartment Muscles
- Popliteus
- Flexor Hallucis longus
- flexor digitorum longus
- tibalis posterior
Tibialis Anterior OIAI
O: Lateral condyle, lateral aspect of the tibia, interosseous membrane of the leg
I: Base of the first metatarsal, medial cuneiform bone
A: dorsiflexes/inverts foot at the ankle
I: deep peroneal nerve
Extensor Digitorum longus OIAI
O: lateral condyle of tibia, medial aspect of tibia, interosseous membrane of leg
I: middle/distal phalanges of the lateral 4 digits
A: dorsiflexes foot at ankle, extends lateral 4 digit
I: Deep peroneal nerve
Extensor Hallucis Longus OIAI
O: medial aspect of the fibula, interosseous membrane of the leg
I: base of the first distal phalanx
A: dorsiflexes the foot at the ankle, extends the big toe
I: Deep peroneal nerve
Peroneus Longus OIAI
O: Head of the fibula, lateral surface of the fibula
I: Base of the 1st metatarsal, medial cuneiform bone
A: everts the foot at the ankle, weakly plantar flexes
I: superficial peroneal nerve
Peroneus Brevis OIAI
O: lateral fibula
I: base of the fifth metatarsal
A: Everts the foot at the ankle, weakly plantar flexes the foot
I: Superficial peroneal nerve
Gastrocnemius OIAI
O: lateral epicondyle of the femur, medial epicondyle of the femur
I: tuber calcanei
A: plantar flexes the foot at the ankle, flexes the leg at the knee
I: tibial nerve
Plantaris OIAI
O: lateral supercondylar line of the femur
I: tuber calcanei
A: plantar flexes the foot at the ankle
I: tibial nerve
Soleus OIAI
O: posterior fibula, soleal line of the tibia
I: tuber calcanei
A: plantar flexes the foot at the ankle
I: Tibial nerve
Popliteus OIAI
O: lateral femoral epicondyle
I: Posterior tibia
A: flexes/ internally rotates the leg at the knee
I: Tibial nerve
Flexor Halucis Longus OIAI
O: posterior fibula, interosseus membrane
I: base of the 1st distal phalanx
A: flexes the big toe, weakly plantar flexes the foot
I: tibial nerve
Flexor digitorum Longus OIAI
O: posterior tibia
I: base of the distal phalanges of toes 2-5
A: flexes the toes, plantar flexes/inverts foot at the ankle
I: tibial nerve
Tibialis posterior OIAI
O: posterior fibula, posterior tibia, interosseous membrane
I: lateral/intermediate/medial cuneiform bone, tuberosity of the navicular bone
A: plantar flexes/inverts the foot at the ankle, supports medial arch
