Lecture 8: The Abdominal Wall Flashcards
The Abdominal Wall is created by layers of _______
muscle and fascia
Camper Fascia & Scarpa fascia’s function
seperates skin and mucles
Camper Fascia is _______
superficial
Scarpa Fascia is ______
deep
What forms the rectus sheath
aponeuroses
Where do the flat muscles of the abdominal wall attach
aponeuroses
Above the Arcuate line
the 3 oblique muscles form around the rectus abdominis muscle
Below the Arcuate line
the 3 oblique muscles form only above the rectus abdominis muscle
The Inguinal Ligaments function
to act as a retinaculum for neurovascular structures passing into the lower limb
How are the abdominal muscles innervated
they are segmentally innervated by branches of spinal nerves
External Obliques OIA
O: Ribs 5-12
I: Iliac Crest, inguinal ligament, linea alba, pubic tubercle
A:
Bilaterally: anterior flexion of the trunk & compression of the abdomen
Unilaterally: lateral flexion of the trunk & rotation of the opposite side
Internal Obliques OIA
O: ilaic crest, inguinal ligament, thoracolumbar fascia
I: ribs 10-12, pectineal line, linea alba, abdominal aponeurosis
A:
Bilaterally: anterior flexion of the trunk and compression of the abdomen
Unilaterally: lateral flexion of the trunk and rotation to the same side
Transverse Abdominis OIA
O: iliac crest, thoracolumbar fascia, costal cartilage of ribs 7-12
I: abdominal aponeurosis
A: compression of the abdomen
Rectus Abdominis OIA
O: Pubic crest & symphysis
I: Costal cartilages 5-7, Xiphoid process
A: flexionn of the trunk
Quadratus Lumborum OIA
O: iliac crest
I: transverse processes L1-L5, rib 12
A: extension of the trunk and lateral flexion, stability
