Lecture 4: Thorax Muscles Flashcards
name of the superficial muscles of the back
- Serratus posterior
- latissimus dorsi
- trapezius
name of the deep muscles of the back
- rotatores
- multifidus
- semispinalis
name of the intermediate muscles of the back
- spinalis
- longissimus
- iliocostalis
shoulders 3 articulations
- sternoclavicular joint
- acromioclavicular joint
- glenohumeral joint
Physiological coupling of the shoulder
scapulo-thoracic joint
- couples the scapula to the thoracic cage involving subscapularis muscle sliding over the serratus anterior muscle
Superior Trapezius OIA
O: superior nuchal line & external occcipital protuberance
I: lateral third of the scapula
A: elevates the scapula
Middle trapezius
O: spinous processes of T1-T4
I: spine and acromion of scapula
Inferior Trapezius
O: spinous processes T5-T12
I: spine of the scapula
A: depresses the scapula
Latissimus Dorsi
O: Spinous processes of T7-T12, Iliac crest, Ribs 9-12, and the inferior angle of the scapula
I: all parts inster on the medial bicepital groove of the humerus
A: adducts/medially rotates the humerus at GHJ, extends the humerus at GHJ
Levator Scapulae
O: transverse processes of C1-C4
I: medial border of the scapula
A: elevates the medial border of the scapula/flexes the neck laterally
Rhomboid Major
O: dorsal spinous processes of the T2-T5 veretbrae
I: medial border of the scapula
A: retract/elevate the medial border of the scapula
Rhomboid Minor
O: dorsal spinous processes of C6-C7 vertebrae
I: medial border of the scapula
A: retract/elevate the medial border of the scapula
Serratus posterior superior
O: spinous processes of C7-T3
I: upper borders of ribs 2-5
A: elevates ribs
Serratus posterior inferior
O: spinous processes of T11-L2
I: inferior borders of ribs 9-12
A: depresses ribs
Pec Major
Clavicular part originates at the medial half of the clavicle
Sternocostal part originates at the sternum and cartilages of ribs 2-7
I: anteriorly & laterally at the Bicepital groove
A: clavicular part flexes arm at GHJ, sternocostal part extends arm at GHJ, together they medially rotate/adduct the arm
