Clinical Anatomy of the Knee Flashcards
popliteal region
posterior knee
proximal tibia’s notable bony features
- lateral condyle
- medial condyle
- tibial tuberosity
the tibial tuberosity is the attachment for
the patellar ligament
the fibula articulates with the lateral tibia
at two points and to the lateral aspect of the femur above it
the patella articulates with
the intercondylar notch of the femur and is embedded in the tendon of the quadriceps femoris muscle above, and with the patellar tendon below
tibiofemoral joint
medial & lateral condyles of distal femur with the medial and lateral condyles of the proximal tibia
patellofemoral joint
anterior distal femur with the patella
The knee is a
hinge joint
Knees flexion and extension
flexion: 130-140
extension: 0-10 degrees
The knee allows for slight
internal and external rotation
the menisci’s function
is to deepen the articulation & add stability
Q-Angle
line between the ASIS/patella and line between the tibial tubercle/patella
Normal Q-angle
male: 8-14*
female: 15-17*
because of the force the quadriceps exert on the tibial tubercle at an angle
the patella experiencces a laterally directed force
Genu Varum
bow legged
