Lecture 3 Flashcards
Thoracic cage contents
ribs, sternum, thoracic vertebrae
Thoracic cage function
encloses the organs of the thoracic cavity & facilitates ventilation
Suprasternal Notch location
vertebral level T2-T3
Sternal Angle
T4-T5
Xiphisternal joint location
T9
Sternum parts n info
- manubrium
- body
- xiphoid process
- articulates with ribs 1-7
1st Sternocostal Joint type
synarthrosis and a synchondrosis
Sternocostal Joints 2-7
synovial joints
Manubriosternal joint type
symphysis
Xiphisternal joint type
symphysis
Intervetrebal foramen function
spinal nerves travels through horizontally
Vertebral foramen function
allows the spinal cord to travel inferiorly
Thoracic cage joints
- sternocostal: body of sternum
- costochondral: head of true ribs
- interchondral: connection of false ribs
Ribs 1-6 articulations
mostly rotation producing ekevation and depression of sternum in sagittal plane
Ribs 7-10 articulations
gliding that produces elevation and depression of lateral ribs in the transverse plane
