Another way to send information around the body is by using hormones
Define hormones
A
- Chemical molecules released directly into the blood, there carried into the blood to other part of the body but only affect target organs

What do hormones control and secreted by?
A
They control things in organs and cells that need constant adjustment
- Hormones are secreted by hormonal glands, these glands make up the hormonal system.
-Hormones tend to have relatively long lasting effect

What does the adrenal gland do?
A
- This produces adrenaline which prepares the body for ‘fight or flight’ response

What does the ovaries do?
A
- Produces oestrogen, which is involved in the menstrual cycle

What do testes do?
A
- Produces testosterone, which controls puberty and sperm in male production

What does the pituitary gland do?
A
- Produces many hormones that regulate body conditions
-Sometimes called the ‘master gland’ as it acts on other glands directing them to release hormones to bring about change

What does the pancreas do
A
produces insulin which is used to regulate the blood glucose

What does the thyroid do?
A
- Produces thyroxine which is involved in regulating things like rate of metabolism, heart rate and temperature
