Abiotic and Biotic factors Flashcards
Examples of abiotic factors
- moisture level - wind intensity and direction
- light intensity - Oxygen level-aquatic animals
- Temp - Soil pH and mineral content
- co2 levels ( plants )
What can changes in environment lead to ?
increase or decrease in abiotic factors = affect population size in community = effect population size of other organisms that depend on them
Example
decrease in mineral content of soil -> nutrient deficiencies -> affect plant growth -> decrease in population size
What are the biotic factors ?
1) new predators arriving 3) New pathogens
2) competition - one species outcompete other = numbers too low to breed
4) Availability of food
What can changes in environment also lead to ?
introduction of new biotic factors = affect population size in community = which can have knock-on effects because of interdependence
Example
new predator cause decrease in prey population,
