Q

What do gases in the atmosphere do ?

A

act like an insulating layer, absorb most of energy that would normally radiate out back into space and re-radiate it in all directions = increase temperature of planet

Q

What would happen in the gases did not act like an insulating layer and absorb energy ?

A

At night, there would be nothing to keep any energy in = we’d get very cold

6
Q

why do we continue to worry about green house gases ?

A

levels of them are rising ( green house gases ) -> earth gradually heating up = global warming

Q

Consequences of global warming

A

1) High temp -> sea water to expand and ice melt , causing sea levels to rise. Has risen a little and if it continues then bad news for animals and people living in low- lying places bcz risk of flood and loss of habitat

Distribution of wild animals and plant species can change as temp changes. Some animals may get more widely distributed,

Q

Another Consequence of global warming

A

2) Change in migration patterns - fly to where its warmer

4) Biodiversity could be reduced as rate of survival effected = extinct
