What are the functions of the salivary gland? Give 2.
- Grind up food.
- Produce Amylase to start breaking down Carbohydrates in the mouth.
What are the functions of the stomach? Give 3.
- The Stomach pummels/churns the food with its muscular walls.
- The Stomach produces the protease enzyme, pepsin.
- The Stomach produces Hydrochloric acid which kills bacteria and provides the protease enzyme with a pH of 2 so it can work.
What is the function of the liver? Give 1.
The Liver produces Bile which neutralises stomach acid.
What is the function of the Gall Bladder? Give 1.
The Gall Bladder stores Bile before it is released into the Small Intestine.
What are the functions of the Pancreas? Give 2.
- Produces Protease, Amylase and Lipase.
- Releases these enzymes int the small intestine.
What is the function of the large intestine? Give 1.
It absorbs excess water from food.
What are the functions of the Small Intestine?
- Produces Protease, Amylase and Lipase.
- Digested food is absorbed out of the digestive system and goes into the blood.
What is the function of the Rectum?
-Where the faeces are stored before they leave via the anus.
