Plant Structure and Photosynthesis Flashcards
Name 3 plant organs.
Stems, roots and leaves.
Leaves are made of which 3 tissues?
Mesophyll Tissue
Xylem & Phloem Tissue
Epidermal Tissue
What’s the function of the mesophyll tissue?
Most of the photosynthesis in a plant occurs in the mesophyll tissue.
What’s the function of xylem and phloem tissue?
These tissues transport water, mineral ions and sucrose around the plant.
What’s the function of the epidermal tissue?
This covers the plant.
What ‘food’ does photosynthesis produce?
Glucose.
Photosynthesis occurs inside which part of a plant cell?
Chloroplasts.
Which green substance do Chloroplasts contain and what is the function of this substance?
Chlorplasts contain chlorophyll.
Chlorophyll absorb sunlight and use the sun’s energy to convert carbon dioxide and water into glucose.
Oxygen is produced as a by-product.
What does sunlight provide in the photosynthesis process?
Energy.
How does carbon-dioxide get into the leaf during photosynthesis?
Through the process of diffusion.
