Parts of Cells & their Functions Flashcards
What is the function of the Nucleus?
The nucleus controls the activities of the cell and contains the cell’s genetic material.
What is the function of the Cytoplasm?
Cytoplasm is a gel-like substance where most of the chemical reactions happen.
What control the chemical reactions that take place in the Cytoplasm?
Enzymes.
What is the function of the Cell Membrane?
The cell membrane controls which substances get in and out of the cell. It also holds the cell together.
What is the function of the Mitochondria?
Most of the reactions for respiration take place in the mitochondria. Respiration releases energy that the cell needs to work.
What is the function of the Ribosomes?
Proteins are made in the cell in the ribosomes.
Which 3 extra parts do plant cells have?
Chloroplasts.
Permanent Vacuole.
Cell Wall.
What is the function of the Chloroplasts?
Chloroplasts contain a green substance called chlorophyll. Photosynthesis occurs in the chloroplasts.
What is the function of the Permanent Vacuole?
The Permanent Vacuole contains cell sap - a weak solution of sugar and salt.
What is the function of the Cell Wall?
The Cell Wall is made of cellulose and strengthens the cell.
Which type of organisms are yeast and bacteria?
Single-celled organisms.
Which 4 parts of a cell does a yeast cell have?
Cytoplasm
Nucleus
Cell Wall
Cell Membrane
Bacterial cells have no _____
Nucleus. Their genetic material floats in the cytoplasm.
