The Circulation System Flashcards
Composition of blood
Plasma, Red Blood Cells, White Blood Cells, Platelets
Function of plasma
Transport medium
5 Functions of Red Blood Cells
Carry oxygen, Bi-Concave, No nucleus/mitochondria, Flexible cell membrane, Made in bone marrow
4 Functions of White Blood Cells
Fight infection, No definite shape, Have a nucleus, Formed in bone marrow
Lymphocytes
Produce antibodies
Monocytes
Engulf microorganisms
3 Functions of Platelets
No nucleus, Made in bone marrow, Clot the blood (form scabs)
Blood Groups
A, B, AB, O
Molecule in red blood cells that carries oxygen
Haemoglobin
What is meant by Double Circulation?
Two separate circuits(systemic + pulmonary) that brings blood to and from the heart.
Oxygenated Blood
Blood that is high in oxygen
De-oxygenated Blood
Blood that is low in/has no oxygen
Systemic Circuit
Brings blood to the BODY and back to the heart
Pulmonary Circuit
Brings blood to the LUNGS and back to the heart
Vessels of the heart (VCPAAPV)
Vena Cava, Pulmonary Artery, Aorta, Pulmonary Vein
