The Cell Flashcards
ischemia
lack of blood supply
hypoxia
lack of oxygen
physical injury
ruptured cell membrane, cell death
infectious disease
bacterial, viral
chemical agent
indogenous - ulcer ruptures allowing acid to spill out
endogenous - drinking drano
genetic defects
enzyme deficiency
manifestation of cellular death
stage 1 - damage to cell results in loss of function
stage 2 - cell swells, ruptures and dies
necrosis
large # of cells die and liquefy due to presence of enzymes
liquifactive necrosis
brain tissue turns into liquid. can take 4 to 5 mins with no oxygen
coagulative necrosis
kidney and heart. looks like scrambled eggs on organs. 30 mins to occur
fat necrosis
adipose tissue. turns hard and calcifies.
caseous necrosis
lung tissue. looks like cheese, thick, yellow white cream substance
gangrene
infected area of necrotic tissue.
bacteria love necrotic tissue.
