- destruction of epidermis and some of dermis
- involves blisters (serous fluid between epidermis and dermis)

effects of burn injury (complications)
A
- shock - low BP ( H2O in tissues)
- resp complcations - if you get eschar on torso … really bad
- pain
- infection - no barriers for protection
- metabolism - increase BMR, require increase nutrition and person requires a lot of maintenance

eschar
A
- scar tissue formed by burns - wrinkly, shinny, hairless
- it shrinks - problem so you need to have an escharotomy
