the Basis of toxicity Flashcards
Be exposure include
Beryllium Sensitization is the activation of the body’s immune response to Be.
Be sensitization can result from inhalation or skin exposure to Be dust, fume,
mist, or solutions. While no clinical symptoms are associated with sensitization,
a sensitized worker is at risk of developing CBD when inhalation exposure to
beryllium has occurred.
Chronic Beryllium Disease (CBD) is a chronic granulomatous lung disease caused by inhaling
airborne Be after becoming sensitized to Be (exposure to Be at levels below 0.2 μg/m3
). The common
symptoms of CBD are shortness of breath, unexplained coughing, fatigue, weight loss, fever, and
night sweats.
Acute Beryllium Disease (ABD) - Acute beryllium disease (ABD) is a rapid onset form of chemical
pneumonia that results from breathing high airborne concentrations of beryllium (exposure to Be
levels at or above 100 μg/m3
).
Lung cancer – Be is classifies as a Group 1 carcinogen (carcinogenic to humans).
Bes method of toxicity -
it binds to atp, The glutamate side-chains in the
peptide binding groove of the cell surface receptor protein (human
leukocyte antigen) HLA-DP2- also leads to inflamation of the lungs
arsenic method of toxicity-
Ld50 = 13mg/kg -
Arsenate can replace phosphate in many
biochemical reactions because they
have similar structure and properties. Arsenic compounds readily react with
thiol-containing molecules such as GSH
(glutathione) and cysteine.-
- biomethylation. As(III)-adenosylmethionine methyltransferases- atatches the myhyl group
