analytical chemistry Flashcards
McAuley
in qualtative analysis what is the analyte
Chemical Species that is being analysed.
what then is the matrix?
Matrix: Everything else in the sample that contains the analyte
what is the concentration tequinique?
SSA = Signal (or instrument response)= ka ca
interferant-
Interferent: Chemical Species that changes the signal and hence
causes errors or biases.
for kai= ki/ka
If Kai is greater than 1, then it responds highly to the interference and thus has poor selectivity
what are standards-
Ensures that the equipment or instrument used to measure the signal works
correctly – Use of a standard sample to produce an exact signal.- known concentration.
what is a calibration curve?
signal vs concetration
what are the figures of merit?
Accuracy
* Precision
* Sensitivity
* Selectivity
* Robustness & Ruggedness
* Scale
* Time
* Cost
what is the ph of the oceans?
8.1 (alkinine ) basic
why is the oceans basic?- 8,1
Rock weathering… often silicates on land and in rivers chemically
weather to form bicarbonate and this washes into the seas and oceans
