Thalamus Flashcards
What are the three regions if thalamus
Anterior
Lateral
Medial
What is the thalamus
A collection if cell bodies lateral to 3rd ventricle
Functions of these regions
Primarily for relay if sensory info from afferent projection fibers
What info does thalamus get from cortex
Already associated info to be relayed back to other parts if cortex
What info does limbic system send to thalamus
From olfactory bulb for further association
What other feedback
Feedback about the nature of motor movement from the cerebellum and basal ganglia
Edit movement and send to precentral motor cortex
Map of info
Take info from left hemi about prosody, Wernickes hear bitch, angular meaning, thalamus send to frontal lobe to direct how you act
Thalamic nuclei
All have a certain type of sensory info that they receive and convey
Subcortical stroke damage
Structures so closely related hard to parcel out sooo effect processing speed and accessing info
Anterior Nuclear
Receive and convey limbic inputs to hypothalamus or anterior cingulate
Lateral dorsal
Receive and convey limbic and cingulate gyrus and PFC inputs
Ventroposterolateral
Receive and convey somatosensory inputs (tactile)
Ventral lateral
Receive and convey edited motor feedback from cerebellum to motor cortex
Medial geniculate
Receive and convey auditory input
Spoken speech
Lateral geniculate
Receive and convey visual inputs
Get to occipital
