What is the City’s policy on “Gratuities”?
No employee shall accept, AS AN INDIVIDUAL, any fee/gift/discount, in the course of performing their duties.
Unless otherwise prohibited by the individual department, what items may be accepted as “gratuities”?
Such items as candy, cookies, lunches, or other items of nominal value, and are intended to be complimentary and shared with entire work group.
What is the City’s policy on accepting compensation as gratuity?
City employees shall not accept compensation for performing a service for which the employee is already paid by the City.
What is the policy on gratuities for anyone doing business with the City?
City employees shall not accept gifts, gratuities, and favors from any person, business, or group doing business with the City.
Before a gift for the entire work group is accepted, what must be done?
The gift must be sent to the department for all the group, and department head approves BEFORE distributions are made.
May promotional items be accepted as gratuity?
Yes, as long as they are for a business and the items are the type (pens, calendars) that are prepared for distribution to the general public.
Can meals be paid for by a business partner of the City?
Meals at which City business is conducted may be paid for by a business partner of the City, provided the value of the meal is reasonable.
What is considered a “business partner” of the City?
Any person/group/business that has entered into a relationship that will benefit the City.
