What is COBRA?
A continuation of Plan coverage, when it would normally end due to life event (death).
How can eligible spouse/dependent become qualified for COBRA?
- death of spouse/parent
- spouse work hours drop
- spouse employment ends for reason other than gross misconduct
- spouse gets Medicare
- divorce/separated
Duration of COBRA coverage?
- up to 18 months due to end of employment/less hours
- up to 36 months due to death/divorce
- for 36 months after date of Medicare
When is payment for COBRA coverage due?
NLT 45 days after date of election.
Who is enrolled in the AZ State Ret System or the PSPRS?
Any employee/temp working at least 20 hrs weekly for 20 weeks or more in a fiscal year.
What is Deferred Comp Plan?
Governmental 457 plan, is a retirement savings plan that allows employees to supplement existing retirement/pension benefits. (tax deferred until withdrawn).
What is Bereavement Leave?
Immediate family member death.

-52 hrs for 52 hour per week employee
(any extra hours charged against sick/vacation leave)
Civic Duty Leave?
-a 2000 hour pool annually for all employees to draw from, to perform civic/community duties. (paid time off).
Who is eligible for Education Leave?
Regular status employees who work 40 hrs plus per week and completed 1 full year service, are allowed 20 hours per year (must be job related).
What is Election Day Leave?
3 consecutive hours immediately after polls opening, also prior to polls closing.
What is Exceptional Disability Leave?
Regular status employee who works 40+ hrs weekly, is unable to work due to injury/illness, and needs very long period of recovery, can apply (must be out of sick/vacation/comp time).
