Test #2: Conditions necessary for life Flashcards
1
Q
What conditions are necessary for life on a planet?
A
Energy (heat) ; appropriate distance A Circular Orbit An Atmosphere Water A Lithosphere Ideal Mass (gravity)
2
Q
Energy:
A
The temperature allows water to stay in liquid form.
3
Q
An Atmosphere:
A
Needs to be able to protect the life forms from dangerous solar radiation. And also allows the water cycle to take place.
4
Q
Ideal Mass:
A
A large planet will have a stronger gravitational field and therefore be able to attract the particles that form an atmosphere. However, if a gravitational field is too strong, a planet will be able to retain Helium, a gas that is not necessary for life to develop. A planet with a small gravitational field will not have enough gravity to hold gas particles in order to form an atmosphere.
