- liquid component, made up mostly of water.

- Have a biconcave shape & flexible to squeeze into small blood vessels like capillaries or turn sharp corners.
- Produced in bone marrow
- Contain hemoglobin (protein helps transport oxygen & carbon dioxide).

White blood cells:
A
- Only blood cell with a nucleus.
- Fewer white blood cells than red blood cells but numbers increase when there’s infection.
- Protect body; neutralizes bacterias & viruses. Others get rid of dead or damaged cells.
