Test#1: term 2: Compress. and Incompress. Fluids, sec 3 Flashcards
1
Q
Why is liquid an incompressible fluid ?
A
- spaces between particles in a liquid are almost non-existent.
- when force is applied to liquid, particles can’t move closer to one another –> pressure doesn’t change.
- force is transmitted from one particle to the next, makes liquid squirt out.
- liquid=incompressible because their volume cannot be reduced.
2
Q
Why is gas compressible ?
A
- spaces between gas particles are large = gives property of being compressible.
- Gas has capacity to diminish in volume when force is applied.
