Q

Why is liquid an incompressible fluid ?

A
  • spaces between particles in a liquid are almost non-existent.
  • when force is applied to liquid, particles can’t move closer to one another –> pressure doesn’t change.
  • force is transmitted from one particle to the next, makes liquid squirt out.
  • liquid=incompressible because their volume cannot be reduced.

Q

Why is gas compressible ?

A
  • spaces between gas particles are large = gives property of being compressible.
  • Gas has capacity to diminish in volume when force is applied.
