Q

how does pulseox work

A

sends out two wavelengths of light (bright red and dark red), then senor measures light that made it through → gives ratio of oxygenated and unoxygenated blood

can see pulsing of arteries and measures the oxygenation in the pulsating part to give you measure of O2 saturation in ateries

Q

how does blood gas machine measure SpO2

A

it calculates it from the PaO2

uses sigmoid curve- can shift and change with species

can be shifted from temperature
