Q

Explain the function of the central executive in the wmm

A

The central executive is responsible for coordinating the subsystems I’m deciding which information should attend each subsystem in the working model memory. It does not store any information and has limited capacity. It can only process one piece of information at a time this is called selective memory. Also deals with cognitive tasks such as mental arithmetic.

Q

Describe using the working model memory while rational and found it difficult to revise while listening to music

A

Racine found it difficult to listen to music and revise because he was using both his articulary process and the phonological store. The articulated process was used while doing revision and the phonological store was being used listening to the music. The working model memory makes the assumption that two tasks that make use of the same component cannot be performed together this is why Rashi and find it difficult to focus On both the music and the revision

Q

Bernadette carried out an experiment to investigate with a noise effects concentration. Asked the participants to complete a word such puzzle with 20 words, while a radio was playing loudly. Participants were given one minute to find as many words as possible. The same participants were given a different word search puzzle once again without the radio for one minute. Identify the fully operationalized independent variable and dependent variable in the experiment conducted by Bernadette

A

The independent variable is whether or not the radio was playing loudly while participants were completing the word search within the minute they were given

The dependent variable was how many wides the participants could find in the word search out of twenty in one minute

Q

Explain what improvement Bernadette could have made to her experiment

A

Bernadette could have used an independent measures design instead of repeated measures. Because it will prevent order effects which could occur when participants carry out both conditions for example tiredness leading to participants not doing as well on the second condition -Without the radio- due to being tired. This would alter Bernadette’s results making them less reliable as the resorts may have been different without the tiredness

Q

Fortune and chat are trying to recall a recent Night out at Robbie Williams tribute event they both recall their lyrics of the opening song Angels however Chad doesn’t recall the same details as Roger about the evenings such as some of the other songs played. Explain how toving explanation of long term memory could explain the recall of Roger and Chad’s night out

A

Toving’s explanation of long term memories suggests our memories are stored in different systems in this case Roger and Chad’s memories of the Robbie Williams tribute event stored in the long term memory while both Roger and Chad recall the lyrics of the opening songs which was most likely paid most attention to their memories of other songs may be stored in different systems in their long term memory which is why Chad doesn’t recall the same details as the components that the long term memory was stored in can be affected by attention, personal experiences Chad may not have attached his memory to pre-existing memories or given contacts to be able to retrieve the information via cues
