Follow the COVEN first responder flow chart. Evacuate. Communicate and advise. Disrobe. Decontaminate.
Who will be responsible for control and co-ordination of any incident identified as having terrorist origins?
The police incident commander.
What will the fire incident commander (fire silver) be responsible for at any incident identified as having terrorist origins?
Firefighting and rescue operations, in consultation with the police.
Should brigade personnel search for suspect devices?
Only on their own premises - police policy is that occupiers are best placed to know what is out of place.
What are the cordon sizes for IEDs?
Up to suitcase size - more than 100m
Up to car size - more than 200m
Up to and beyond truck size - more than 400m
What are the five Cs that an EOD officer expects an IC to perform?
Confirm - location, characteristics etc
Clear - public from area, moving those nearest the device first
Cordon - appropriate distance
Control - ensure control is informed, rvp searched
Check - cordon, resources, for secondary devices
What are the radio minimum distance restrictions if an IED is suspected?
How is this different to non-IED explosives?
10m handheld
50m appliance
Turn off appliance radio if it needs to be used closer than 50m, e.g. for pumping
The radio distance for non-IED explosives is 60m (PN806)
Can you wear a brigade pager near a suspected IED?
Yes.
Who establishes a press briefing area and issues statements at a terrorist incident?
This is entirely a police responsibility.
