What are the three purposes of cordons?`
A
- To separate those at risk, including fire service personnel, from the hazard.
- To facilitate the operations of the emergency services.
- To protect the scene and prevent unauthorised access to evidence or property.

What three types of cordon are there?
A
Inner - around the immediate scene of operations to restrict or exclude access to an area of hazard
Outer - to separate the public from areas used by the emergency services
Traffic - set up by police at or beyond the outer cordon to prevent unauthorised vehicle access to the surrounding area

What barrier tape should be used for each of the cordon types?
A
Inner - yellow tape with ‘Hazard Zone - Do Not Cross’ written in black
Outer - white tape with ‘Fire Service - Do Not Cross’ written in red
