Technological strategies Flashcards
technological development
the equipment and knowledge available to assist a business to function and create products. developments in technology may facilitate new methods of production being introduced or new equipment being used to quicken or lower costs of production improvements in productivity (efficiency) and quality (effectiveness)
Automated production line
A series of machines and workstations are arranged in sequence to perform task automatically with little to no employee involvement.
APL disadvantages
- high establishment costs
- ongoing maintenance costs
- production may need to stop if machinery break down
- leads to job loses
APL efficiency and effectiveness
it improves efficiency by using fewer human resources, and can perform tasks quicker than humans. It can also reduce waste due to improved quality
This can improve effectiveness as it allows business to meet customer demands, due to increased quality due to improved accuracy and consistency
APL example
Jayco- each station completes a task and part of the caravans and has 20 mins then moves to next station.
Robotics
programable machines that can operate tasks automatically and detect changes in the enviornment.
intergrates computer science and engeneering in the deisgn and construction of robots to preform manual tasks
robotics are used to perform repetetive tasks, allowing a streamlined workflow
robotics disadvantages
- high establishment costs
- ongoing maintenance costs
- robotics may break down
- may lead to job loses
robotics example
Robot waiters, called Bellabots, are being used to serve food at Dodee Paidang Thai restaurant in Melbourne CBD.
The machines take meals straight from the kitchen to diners.
- to combat staff shortages
CAD example
Samsung - designing electronics
CAD
is a software system used to design and test a product before it is produced. allows changes to designs to be made easily with fewer resources.
robotics efficiency and effectiveness
it improves efficiency by using fewer human resources, and can perform tasks quicker than humans. It can also reduce waste due to improved quality
This can improve effectiveness as it allows business to meet customer demands, due to increased quality due to improved accuracy and consistency
CAD disadantages
- employees need to be trained, increasing time and cost
- software can crash, causing design delays
CAD efficiency and effectiveness
Efficiency:
- uses fewer design resources
- speeds up design process
- ability for others to view product and provide feedback, preventing producing a product the market does not want
preventing under or over stock
Effectiveness:
- greater accuracy in design
- higher consistency in quality
CAM
uses software to control the manufacturing process, this enables a more efficient and precise manufacturing process that results in an improved customer experience.
