Total Quality Management
A whole organisation approach to achieving quality based on continuous improvement in the area of quality. The aim is to have a production process that is defect-free and a business will strive for continuous improvement until this goal is achieved

TQM example
Toyota - ensures TQ, the fundamentals of TQM are built on a process of recognising errors in manufacturing to reduce or eliminate them
TQM disadvantages
- requires commitment from all employess
- can be expensive to implement (employee training)
- requires a change in culture
TQM efficiency and effectiveness
efficiency:
- fewer errors
- reduce waste
- continuous improvement in all of the business
effective:
- improved customer satisfaction
- greater customer loyalty, improved market share

Quality assurance
A system where the business achieves a standard of quality in the production of a good or service as assessed by an external independent body. comparing their products against a global standard. External audit will highlight any issues which can be rectify - reduced the number of defects released to the customer

efficiency:
- improving the processes in the business, leading to improved use of resources
- fewer errors created, leading to less wastage

- focusing on prevention rather than detection
- improved consistency (greater customer satisfaction)

quality control
The use of inspections at various points in the production process to check for problems and defects. The aim is to identify problems early so problems can be rectified quickly.

Dom dominos pizza checker- checks the pizza to make sure it is 100 perfect, and sends photo to customer, if not perfect, made again
