What is a Gap Analysis?
The next step is to perform a gap analysis to keep up with the current state of tasks performed by Ε team, in order to bridge the gap between the current position and the intended positions of the team.
A GAP analysis ensures that all team members have a common vision (a shared understanding) to determine what must be done NOW to achieve the intended result / outcome of the plan.
Trust and communication
When the persons in a team are not prepared to share ideas and opinions and team members function as individuals rather than a unit striving for the same goal.
Conflict
Functional conflict leads to a better understanding of each other, as well as for the overall goals of the team.
Dysfunctional conflict breaks down relationships within the team and will have a negative outcome. It will also lead to team members not being willing to have open discussions with each other, as some members often back down or withdraw from such Ε situation. The result is that team members fall behind and gossip rather than participate in constructive discussions.
Commitment vs. Avoidance
When team members are not completely committed to the team and team up against one another, they hesitate to raise important issues and it can lead to behaviour that is counterproductive to the success of the team. A lack of positive results may indicate the unwillingness of members to stay committed to, or take responsibility for the teamβs goals and actions. These members therefore avoid committing to the team.
Results
When team members are not willing to be accountable, the result is that they do not hold themselves or each other responsible for their actions (or lack of action). Members then start putting their own needs above those of the team and this has a further negative impact on the team results or performance.
