How does a taxane work
active in the mitosis phase of the cell cycle. Anti-microtubule agent, which leads to inhibition of mitosis and cell division
Common side effects of all taxanes?
Myelosuppression, mucositis, diarrhea
Paclitaxel (Taxol)- think solid tumors

Side effects: M,Muc,D, sensory neuropathy, hypersensitivity reaction, alopecia, changes in liver labs (transanimases, bilirubin, alk phos), arthralgia, myalgia
Protein-bound paclitaxel (Abraxane)

Breast, NSCLC
Side effects: M,Muc,D,N,V, arthralgia, myalgia, alopecia
Docetaxel (taxotere)

HN, NSCLC, gastric, breast, ovarian, prostate
Side effects: M,Muc,D, neurotoxicity, fluid retention, skin and nail changes, hypersensitivity reaction, changes in liver labs (transanimases, bilirubin, alk phos)
