What does an antitumor antibiotic do?
Inhibits cell division by binding to DNA and interfering with RNA synthesis
Common side effects of antitumor antibiotics

Bleomycin (Blenoxane)
IV, SC, IM
HN, SCC of skin, melanoma, cervix, vulva, testicular, HD, NHL
Side effects: pulmonary tox, renal tox, infusion reaction, skin and nail changes
Dactinomycin (Actinomycin-D)- think rareish tumors
IV
Ewing sarcoma, rhabdomyosarcoma wilm’s tumor, testicular
Side effects: M,N,V, mucositis, diarrhea, anorexia, alopecia
Mitomycin-C (Mutamycin)- think GI and breast
IV
HN, esophagus, lung, stomach, pancreas, bladder, anus, breast
Side effects: M,N,V, mucositis, diarrhea, anorexia, fatigue, alopecia, Renal tox, pulmonary tox
