What is the goal setting acronym?

What does SMART stand for?
Specific Measurable Achievable Realistic Time Related
Why should goals be specific?
Reflect Ability
Clear and Precise so you know what you are aiming to do
Why should goals be measurable?
To ensure you are able to see if you have reached your targets and have made progress
Why should goals be achievable?
To allow motivation to remain high and so the performer is able to achieve goals in the future
Why should goals be realistic?
They should be realistic to allow the performer to be able to achieve the goals
Why should goals be time related?
So there is a deadline for the goal that would allow performers to become motivated
Give an example of a short term and long term goal that are related
Week 4 = 7 minute running mile
Week 10 = 21 minute 5k
What are the benefits of setting goals?
Increased motivation
Avoid a plateau in training
Measurement of progress
Able to focus in training
Why do goals allow you to gain motivation?

Completely focused on improvement

Able to make maximum improvement as focused and concentrated
