Q

What is the main difference between a normal takeoff, and a V1 cut?

A

Aside from more rudder being needed, they are mostly the same. The only difference is the initial pitch is about 2-3 degrees lower than normal all engine pitch attitude after rotation. The rate of rotation is also slower.

Q

If you have a reduced thrust setting for takeoff (ATM, fixed derate, or combined), is it OK to advance the thrust levers to the full rated thrust?

A

It depends-

ATM only: Yes, its OK to advance the thrust levers for more performance

Fixed derate: Not allowed, may lose control (VMCG/VMCA based on fixed derate)

Combined ATM + fixed derate: Not allowed, may lose control (VMCG/VMCA based on fixed derate, no way of knowing where ATM ends and fixed derate begins)

Q

When should you call for the NNC on a V1 cut?

A

AFTER flaps 5, and you’ve already verified CON and called “Select ENG OUT,” …after that, call for NNC.

Q

As PF, you keep the aircraft under control throughout the V1 cut. Turn on the AP once in trim and above 250’, select HDG at 400’. Then what?

A

At acceleration height, NAVIGATE first. Make sure you’re flying the EFP. Then say “Status.” PM will say “Engine severe damage number 1” (for example), then you say “confirmed.” Then call for “immediate action items” if there are any. Otherwise wait for flap retraction and say “Select ENG OUT” then call for the NNC.

Q

What does PF do and call for once you’ve reached your planned flap setting (Flaps 5 for training) after a V1 cut?

A

-Verify CON, if not, select THR switch
-Call “Select engine out”
-Call for NNC
-Call “Recall review” after NNC complete
-Call for after takeoff checklist
