Go-Arounds/Missed Approaches Flashcards
On a go around, at 400 you___
Select or call for a roll mode
On a go around, at 1,000’ you____
Select or call VNAV or FLCH.
When does TOGA become armed on an approach?
When flaps are out of up, or when glideslope is captured.
What does the first push of the TOGA switch do?
Gives you both roll and pitch TOGA mode and commands a 2,000 FPM climb in THR mode
What does a second push of the TOGA switch do?
Commands THR REF and gives you full GA thrust
What is a TOGA level off?
If you fail to select a vertical mode, it will still level off at the MCP altitude. However the autothrottle will stay in THR or THR REF. You will haul ass. (still will have speed protection but don’t find yourself in a TOGA level off)
What is the initial pitch attitude to smoothly rotate for on a go around?
12.5 degrees
Can an automatic go around be initiated after touchdown?
No, do it manually. But once airborne again, you can use the TOGA switch.
What mode does VNAV go to on a go around? Why is this significant?
Climb mode. You need to call for activation of descend now to get it into a descent mode after the missed approach if you are coming back to try to land again.
Can you go around after reverse thrust is deployed?
NO. You must complete a full stop.
If the TOGA switch does not work, what do you do?
Apply go around thrust, call flaps 20, positive rate, gear up, manually pitch to 12.5 degrees. Have PM cycle the flight directors. Then call for LNAV at 400, VNAV at 1,000, AP CMD
