Akathisia

Dystonia
What happens in dystonia?
-Head rotates to one side
OR head plus down toward chest or back
-Rapid blinking
-Distortions of the mouth and tongue

A neurological syndrome due to depletion of the neurotransmitter dopamine that is a precursor to norepinephrine
Parkinsonism
What is parkinsonism characterized by?

What is neuroleptic malignant syndrome?
Life threatening adverse reaction to antipsychotic medications
What are the characteristics of neuroleptic malignant syndrome?-
- Fever
- Severe muscle rigidity
- Dyskinesia
- Incontinence
- Unstable BP
- Pulmonary congestion
- Tachycardia
- Loss of consciousness
- Coma
- Death
