What do the physiological needs have to do with?
The maintenance of the human body. If we are unwell, little matters until we recover
What is safety and security about?
Putting roof over our heads and keeping us from harm
If we are rich, strong, and powerful, or have good friends we can make ourselves safe
What is love and belonging needs about?
Introduce or tribal nature–if we are helpful and kind to others they will want us as friends
What are the self-esteem needs?
For a higher position within a group–if people respect us we have a greater power
What does it mean if we have reached self-actualization?
We have become what we are capable of becoming–our greatest achievement
What need is this:
Friendship, family, intimacy, sense of connection
Love and belonging (3rd basic need)
What need is this:
Breathing, food, water, shelter, clothing, sleep
Physiological (MOST basic needs)
What need is this:
Confidence, achievement, respect of others, the need to be a unique individual
Self-esteem needs (4th)
What need is this:
Health, employment, property, family and social stability
Safety/security needs (2)
What need is this:
Morality, creativity, spontaneity, acceptance, experience purpose, meaning, and inner power
Self-actualization needs (5)
Do people move up and down this hierarchy or is it once you’ve achieved a level, you only move up?
No, the individual can move up and down the hierarchy depending on life events
