What are some of the ways the airplane will kick the FMS out of “AUTO Tune”?
A
- Manually selecting a frequency on RTU or FMS
- Selection of DME HOLD
- Select FMS TUNE INHIBIT
- Selecting a NAV source to something other than FMS (white needles i.e. going to “Green Needles”
- After the FMS completes an automatic NAV-to-NAV turning (Next Gen)
- A NAV receiver failure
- For auto tuning to be active we must have select FMS navigation (white needles) and AUTO tune selected on the FMS radio page, the FMS is assigned control of the VHF navigational radios

Do we need to be AUTO Tune enroute?
A
The normal and recommended operating mode is AUTO when using the FMS as the NAV source
