Q

Why would want to close the HYD SOV with the engine still running in a 700/900?

A

The HYD SOV switchlight(s) provide an alternate method of closing the shutoff valve(s) eliminating the requirement to shut down an engine to control fluid over temperature. in the event of a leak it may preserve remaining fluid.

Q

What are the Main and Backup Hydraulic Pumps?

A

The main pumps are the “A” pumps. The backups are the “B” pumps. System 1 & 2 are powered by the engine driven pumps (EDP) and have AC motor backups. System 3 is powered by two ACMPs.

Q

How are HYD systems 2 and 2 cooled?

A

The fluid is cooled by an air/hydraulic oil heat exchanger. The heat exchanger (located in the aft equipment bay) uses cool air from the RAM AIR duct. Since the EDPs are mounted on the accessory gearbox, they are exposed to high operating temperatures. During ground operations, an electric fan will activate in lieu of forced RAM AIR cooling.
