Q

What kind of weather do I need at the takeoff alternate?

A

Derived alternate weather minimums.
Either:
At least ONE operational navigation facility providing a straight-in precision or non-precision approach procedure. Ceiling = Cat I HAT (or HAA as applicable for approach) + 400 Ft. Visibility Cat 1 mins + 1 mile
-OR-
At least TWO nav facilities, EACH providing precision or non-precision approaches to DIFFERENCE, SUITABLE runways. Ceiling = the HIGHER HAT of the two approaches + 200 ft, Visibility the HIGHER Cat 1 mins + 1/2 mile.

Q

When are reduced thrust/FLE takeoffs prohibited

A
  • Anti-skid inoperative
  • Contaminated Runway
  • Aircraft has been de-iced
  • Wing adn/or cowl anti-icing bleeds are in use
  • Warnings of wind shear or downdrafts have been forecast
  • Engine cannot achieve full-rated thrust
  • Special departure procedure specifies full thrust fo takeoff

Q

Can we burn through a thousand pounds of tanker fuel before takeoff in the 900?

A

We must have the stated min fuel for takeoff. Tanker fuel is the amount of fuel above minimum that is NOT required, but carried due to cost savings and economics.

Q

What is the tolerance between Ramp Fuel and Fuel on Board?

A

+/- 300 lbs. A variance of Ramp Fuel is allowed but never less than Min Takeoff Fuel plus Taxi Fuel

Q

If we add a Takeoff Alternate to the flight in the 700/900, does that change our takeoff fuel

A

Usually not. Since the TOA (within one hour from the departure airport based on normal cruise speed in still air with one engine inoperative - 300 nm) is usually closer than the destination, the existing fuel requirements to get to the destination will cover the fuel requirements to get to the TOA
