haber process discovered by

A

Discovered by German chemists Fritz Haber, this process converts
atmospheric nitrogen (N2
) to ammonia (NH3
) in a reaction with
hydrogen (H2
) at high temperatures and pressures.

Q

wfive primary decompostion reactions

A

-binary compounds breakdown into their elements

-metal carbonates (XCO3
) → metal oxide + carbon dioxide (CO2
)

-metal chlorate (XClO3
) → metal chloride + oxygen (O2
)

-base [metal hydroxide (XOH)] → metal oxide + water (H2O)

Q

two types of combustion reactions

A
  1. Complete Combustion
    * In this reaction a hydrocarbon is burned in plenty of oxygen.
    * There are only two products in a complete combustion reaction
    → carbon dioxide and water
  2. Incomplete Combustion
    * In this reaction a hydrocarbon is burned in a limited amount of oxygen.
    * This results in the formation of toxic by-products. There are four products
    in an incomplete combustion reaction → carbon dioxide, water, carbon
    monoxide and carbon
