SYmpathetic Blockers Flashcards
Alpha 1 selective Blockers
PTDT
Prazosin, terazosin, Doxazosin, tamsulosin
SInce they block alpha 1 they prevent vascular smooth muscle contraction and bladder spincter tightening
USED MOSTLY IN BPH, can also lower BP
May cause ortho hypotension and reflex tachy
Tamsulosin is used to treat
BPH……VERY VERY SELECTIVE….uses an alpha receptor found really only in the prostate
Alpha 2 selective
Mirtazapine
Non-selective alpha blockers
Phenoxybenzamine, Phentolamine
Non-selective beta blockers
Propanolol, Timolol, Natolol
What is unique about Acebutolol and Pindolol as beta blockers
They are actually very weak agonists but because they displace norepinephrine, which is a much stronger natural gonist, they work as antagonists.
