Anti-coagulation Flashcards
1
Q
Aspirin mech.
A
Irreversibly inhibits COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes within the platelet. Platelets can’t make more so the platelets affected can’t make thromboxane A2 until they die and new platelets are produced (every 8-10 days).
2
Q
Labs when taking aspirin?
A
BT goes up
NO effect on PT or PTT.
3
Q
Toxicity of aspirin
A
- Gastric ulceration, tinnitus, chronic use can lead to acute renal failure.
- Reyes syndrome: Hepatoencephalopathy
- Overdose leads to respiratory alkalosis and metabolic acidiosis
4
Q
What are the ADP receptor inhibitors
A
Clopidogrel, Ticlopidine, Prasurgel, Ticagrelor
5
Q
How do the ADP inhibitors work
A
Block ADP receptor which generally accepts ADP to induce GpIIb/IIIa expression and thus allows fibrinogen to bind which links platelets.
Platelets can’t aggregate.
