Q

What kind of Diuretic is Acetazolamide

A

Carbonic Anhydrase Inhibitor….Inhibits the function of carbonic anhydrase in the lumen which is to convert HCO3 into CO2 and water (which can be reabsorbed. No carb anhydrase and no reabsorption of water.

4
Q

WHat is acetazolamide used for most

A

To get rid of bicarbonate…remember, alt sickness you hyperventilate which means you go into resp alkalosis becaue you blow off too much Co2. you can treat this by shedding bicarb.

8
Q

How do loop diuretics work

A

inhibit the Na, K, 2Cl cotransporter in the thick ascending loop of henle. Abolish the hypertonicity of the medulla so that the urine can’t be concentrated

Use LOOPS when you want to dump a ton of fluid
