small blood vessels within the conjunctiva rupture and release blood into the space between the sclera and conjunctiva

HTN
bleeding disorders
medications (antiplatelets/anticoagulants)
whooping cough
non-accidental injury

presentation of subconjunctival haemorrhages
A
painless
bright red patch on white of eye
doesn’t affect vision

management of subconjunctival haemorrhages
A
spontaneously resolves in around 2 weeks
if foreign body sensation then lubricating eye drops may help
consider underlying cause
