Study Guide- Flight Control Laws Flashcards
What protection do you have in Normal Law?
5
-High Speed
-High AOA (Alpha protection)
-Load Factor (+2.5/-1)
-Pitch Attitude (30 deg up/15 deg down)
-Bank Angle (67 deg)
How does the high speed protection operate?
If Vmo/Mmo plus 6 kts/0.1M is exceeded, the system induces a pitch up input to limit aircraft speed.
Can the pilot override this (high speed protection) pitch-up?
No
What is Alpha Max?
The maximum AOA allowed in Normal Law, indicated by the top of the red strip on the airspeed scale.
How does High Angle of Attack Protection operate?
When the AOA exceeds Alpha Prot, pitch trim ceases and AOA is now proportional to sidestick deflection, not to exceed Alpha Max even with full aft sidestick deflection.
What is Alpha Floor Protection?
When the AOA exceeds a specific threshold (between Alpha Prot and V Alpha Max) the A/THR is automatically activated and commands TOGA thrust, regardless of TL position.
Alpha Floor Protection is a function of what system?
-A/THR
-Requires operative A/THR system to operate
What happens to thrust and what annunciates on the FMA when you reach A Floor?
-Thrust……TOGA
-FMA………A. FLOOR
What occurs during Alpha Floor Protection after speed increases above Vls?
FMA changes to TOGA LK
How do you regain normal A/THR?
4
-Move TLs to the TOGA detent.
-Press the Instinctive Disconnect button.
-Return the TLs to the CL detent.
-Press the A/THR pb
When is Alpha Floor Protection active?
From lift-off through 100 ft. RA on approach
Can you override the high or low stabilities in Alternate Law?
Yes
If you are in Alternate Law, what law would roll be?
Direct Law
Can you stall the aircraft in Normal Law?
Not in Normal Law, but the aircraft can be stalled in all other laws.
What PDF indications indicate Normal Law?
2
-Green = for pitch, bank and overspeed limits
-Amber/black (A prot) airspeed tape
