smaller arteries of the anterior cerebral circulation
2/3 criteria
lacunar
internal capsula, basal ganglia, thalamus
can be 1 of the following:
unilateral hemiparesis and/or sensory loss of face and limbs
pure sensory loss
ataxic hemiparesis
posterior circulation
vertebro-basillar arteries
can be 1 of the following:
cerebellar
loss of consciousness
isolated homonymous hemianopia
Wernicke’s aphasia
superior temporal gyrus
speech fluent
comprehension and repetition impaired
Broca aphasia
inferior frontal gyrus
non-fluent speech
comprehension normal
repetition impaired
Conductive aphasia
arcuate fasciculus
fluent speech
repetition impaired
aware of errors
